Which show will leave the better TV legacy: Breaking Bad or Dexter? Overall, I think Dexter is the better show, but I think BB will have a better final season. They're two of the best TV shows ever, regardless.

Sorry Olivia, have to disagree here. Breaking Bad is way better than Dexter (which IMO jumped the shark a while back). I think BB's season finale will be one for the ages. Vince Gilligan said he cried while writing it!
Even with a few missteps, I still think Dexter is better overall: I like the characters much more, and it offers a little comic relief along the way. Overall I say they're both great shows, don't get me wrong. I guess it's all subjective.
I like both shows and I would throw Homeland into the conversation too. Dexter has big name guest stars each season like Julia Stiles and Colin Hanks. Dexter is a pretty likeable guy even though he kills people. He's probably the first serial killer that anyone has ever rooted for on TV. Both shows have interesting themes like serial killers and meth cooks. I like Dexter more than Walter because Walter is a jerk. Breaking Bad is one of the shows that spawns out of a situation that should have never happened. If Walter decides to accept money for his cancer treatment instead of cook meth then the show never happens. Walter taking money for his cancer treatment is a way more likely scenario than cooking meth because the people offering the money were filthy rich. They even offer Walter a job to work for their company and have the best health care. In real life Walter would have taken this offer instantly. Homeland is a great show because it is the only show about the CIA(I think). Everything that goes on at the CIA is some of the most interesting scenarios to ever put on TV. The idea of a terrorist turning a Marine against his country and sending him back to the US to avenge his sons death is a great idea. Mandy Patinkin(Saul) is one of the most believable characters in TV history. If I was to think of a senior member of the CIA I would think of Saul.
Just talking overall show *quality*, that's regardless of how much someone might personally like a character or plotline, I think BB towers over Dexter.
I do love me the Dexter, no doubt, but the show doesn't grow, push boundaries (at least not structurally or thematically). Take away the fact that Dexter is a serial killer and the show becomes indistinguishable from other run-of-the-mill quality shows. IMO, Breaking Bad has done things with character, plotting, story structure, cinematography, scoring, casting and every other aspect of serial drama that outshines any other show currently on the air.
Well said, Analise. I agree with you on BB being far superior to Dexter and @stokified YES I love love love Homeland too. Season two wasn't as good as season one for me, but it was still great. Looking forward to seeing where this all goes when the new season starts.
